Types of Anti-Wrinkle Treatments

There are 3 main types of anti- wrinkle treatments:

The most effective topically applied medication is tretinoin, commonly known as Retin-A. Dr. Wolf uses a specially compounded combination of Retin-A and hyaluronic acid with his patients which improves the quality to the dermis to diminish fine wrinkles.

The hyaluronic acid component acts as a cellular moisturizer to effect improvements in the overall appearance of the skin.

The medical skin care lines of Obaji and Dermesse contain hydroquinone help to even skin tone and when combined with Retin-A the results are superior to over-the-counter non-prescriptive strength products. Patients tell us that they typically spend less on the medical care regimen and experience superior results.

BOTOX®

Botox is a product that relaxes muscles which are underneath the skin and therefore produce a smoothing of even deeper wrinkles. The most common application of Botox is in the treatment of the forehead creases, frown lines technically known as corrugator creases, and the lines lateral to the eye commonly known as crows feet. Less commonly Botox may be injected in the muscles underneath the eye and in the upper lip. The muscles of the neck known as the platysma, which present as bands running from the chin to the base of the neck may also be positively influence by utilizing Botox.

A medical treatment for hyperhidrosis or increased sweating commonly experienced under the arms or of the hands and feet involves utilizing Botox to control activity of sweat glands. This is also a highly effective area for Botox treatment and typically lasts longer than the 3-4 months achieved in wrinkle reduction. As partners of our cosmetic consumers we provide a unique approach to providing of Botox injections.

Botox once reconstituted has a very short half-life. It is been reported that some practices open a bottle and utilizing for over a week, the potency of Botox decreases dramatically over that time. Our Botox is utilized within 24 hours. We achieve this by pre-selling the units before opening the bottle. This allows us to use a higher dosage of Botox, 20 units per area at a cost effective price of $229. Those that stay on a regular injection cycle are able to further decrease their cost because the wrinkle reduction activity over time easily lasts 4 months rather than the 3 months typically experienced by those that utilize Botox intermittently.

Juvederm®

Juvederm is an injectable dermal filler gel made from hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance in the skin that adds both volume and hydration. It’s primary use is to smoothing away facial wrinkles and folds around the nose and mouth.

Juvederm dermal filler adds volume to the tissue of the face resulting in the appearance of smoother, healthier skin in which there are moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folding of the skin. Noticeable results can be see within a few appointments which can last approximately 9 to 12. The product is also very useful for improving the crease on either side of the nose which is known as the nasal labial fold as well as the creases that oftentimes are present at the corners of the mouth and are known as marionette lines.

The depression that occurs below the inner aspect of the eye technically known as the nasal jugular fold is also amenable to injection treatment. Other creases and wrinkles of the face found near the cheek or jaw line may also be treated.

Restylane®

Restylane is a hyaluronic acid that is a naturally occurring compound found in human tissues. It is the building block that holds the cells together and because it is a natural compound, it does not require skin testing. The product is injected to treat vertical lines leading out from the mouth, along with other lines in the face are most amenable to Restylane injections. It can also be used to plump the lips.

Restylane typically lasts twice as long as collagen and can last anywhere between 9 to 12 months. We have seen patients whose augmentation has lasted well past a year. The Restylane surgical procedure takes about one hour and the day following the procedure, the tape mask is removed and then a powder is applied that mixes with the weeping skin to form a mask. The mask remains on the skin for 7 days and then on the 8th day using Vaseline, the mask is removed to reveal a new pink, tender skin.

Radiesse®

Radiesse is designed to replenish volume and restore collagen thus refreshing areas of the face. This volumizing filler immediately provides the lift needed to diminish the signs of aging with it’s calcium-based microspheres that act as a scaffold under the skin providing structure. It also stimulates your own natural collagen to grow as the process continues for months. The results are clinically proven to last a year or more in many patients.

CO2 Laser Resurfacing

This treatment utilizes laser and intense pulse light energy applied to the skin to heat the dermis and enable skin retraction which results in the reduction of wrinkles. The process also improves the effects of sun damage, brown spots and other skin disorders associated with aging. CO2 laser resurfacing is the gold standard of wrinkle improvement. It can be used as a yearly maintenance approach to maintaining beautiful skin. Recovery is approximately one week.

Often the CO2 laser is used in the areas of the greatest wrinkling, such as underneath the eyes or the upper lip. The remainder of the face, neck and chest is then treated with a chemical peel.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels may be as light as a Jessners peel which is in entry-level peel and can be performed on a monthly basis. The highest strength peel is Jessners combined with trichloracetic acid 35%. This peel enters the mid dermal layer and is the deepest peel that can be performed safely.

Other options are trichloracetic acid (TCA) of 20, 25 and 30%. The higher strength peels of 30 and 35% usually require the addition of medications to provide comfort during the peel.
